Searching the Web

Searching the web using Monkey Look is fun and easy. On Monkey Look’s homepage you will see our search bar. Type what you are looking for into the search bar and click the “Look” button.

For best search results, consider the following:
  • Avoid sentences.
  • What topic are you looking for? Search by topic, not by question.

After clicking “Look,” Monkey Look will provide a list of websites that match your search.

You may see a “See More” button on your search result pages. Clicking the “See More” button activates an open source web crawler, which will provide additional websites that match your search.

You may also see “Related Pages” at the bottom the search results. These are similar search result pages and clicking on them will take you to result pages similar to what you are looking for.

Do you know a website that should be in our result pages? You can add it! See the next section for more information about adding websites to Monkey Look.

Adding Websites

You can add websites to Monkey Look’s result pages. Throughout Monkey Look, you will see the “Add website” button. By clicking this button, you can add websites to Monkey Look result pages. Please see the Posting Requirements before adding websites.

When adding websites, you will need to provide the following:
  • Category: This is the topic that another visitor must search for in order to find the website. For example, if you are adding a website that offers cooking tips, then “Cooking” would be a good category.
  • Website: This is the address of the website that you are adding. Please include “http://” before the website address.

All websites added to Monkey Look by its visitors can be moved to another category by other visitors and flagged by visitors for removal. If a visitor repeatedly adds websites to Monkey Look that are flagged by the Monkey Look community, the visitor may be permanently banned from adding and/or moving websites in the future.

Moving a Website

Anybody can edit Monkey Look result pages by moving the websites added by other users to different search result pages or categories.

When a visitor adds a website to Monkey Look, a “Move” button appears next to that website. If another visitor feels the website should be in a different category, he or she can click the “Move” button. After clicking “Move,” the user can choose the new category from related topics or create a new category.

The “Move” button appears next to all websites added by the public to Monkey Look. Websites listed by the web crawler and/or by paid sponsors will not have the “Move” button next to them and cannot be moved.

Flagging a Website

Flagging a website alerts Monkey Look administration that the website violates the Terms of Service or Posting Requirements and should be removed. If you feel a website violates the Terms of Service or Posting Requirements, flag the website by clicking on the “Flag” button. Monkey Look will then review the website and determine whether or not to remove it.

The “Flag” button appears next to all websites added by the public to Monkey Look. Websites listed by the web crawler and/or by paid sponsors will not have the “Flag” button next to them and cannot be removed.

If a visitor repeatedly adds websites to Monkey Look that are flagged and removed by the Monkey Look community, the visitor may be permanently banned from adding and/or moving websites in the future.

Relating Pages

Many searches are similar to others. For example, “Airline Tickets” is related to “Travel.” Such relationships in Monkey Look are displayed with the text, “Related Pages.” If you think a search is related to another, you can relate the two with the “Add Relation” button at the bottom of the result pages. After clicking the “Add Relation” button, type the name of the related category. The relationship will then show at the bottom of the search results for both categories.

Posting Requirements

All websites added to Monkey Look must meet the following Posting Requirements.

  1. Be family friendly: Absolutely no porn, obscenity, hate speech, or any other graphic material inappropriate for children.
